July Monthly Highlights

Kia ora koutou and welcome to BookHub’s July Highlights!

A chill is in the air and it feels like the perfect time to get cosy and crack open a new book. With the help of some of Aotearoa’s independent booksellers, we’ve curated the best new book releases of the month just for you.

We can’t wait to get our hands on Gina Butson’s hypnotic debut novel, The Stars Are a Million Glittering Worlds! It’s the story of a woman haunted by tragedy that will take you across the globe, from Aotearoa to Central America and Australia, as she grapples with love, guilt and forgiveness.

If you’re a bit of a news junkie, you’re going to love this month’s non-fiction picks. Steve Braunias unpacks the Polkinghorne case that gripped the nation, and Lisette Reymer’s no-holds-barred account of her life as a war correspondent, No, I Don't Get Danger Money, will have you gripped. If you’re after something calming, you might like the beautiful new poetry collection by Nina Mingya Powles, or you could dive into some hearty no-fuss recipes with Wendy Morgan’s Comfort Cooking

For our tamariki, we think they’ll love diving in and exploring the amazing coastal creatures of Aotearoa with Donovan Bixley’s Splash!, learning about Aotearoa’s own world heavyweight champion wētā in Koro Wētā, or solving a messy mystery with Detective Clue-keko.

Happy reading!
